Welcome to Pet Talk Radio! You may have noticed we've been a little 'quiet' lately... that's
because we're developing a new in-store radio service for pet
retailers called PetBiz Radio. It seems to take up more
time than we'd like right now but in the end will be worth it.
Of course Pet Talk Radio! plus the many years worth of
free access archives we have for you lives on via this website
and we hope to re-start regular weekly shows sometime in the
future.
If you've recently signed up for our updates - hang in
there... we'll keep you posted from time to time of what's
going on or if you simply missed our news about the future of the radio component of our
show you can see
it here or read about it here.
We'll have an update on this and our many other pet related
projects shortly - stay tuned!
Meantime - Hugs for your pets from Kaye & Brian
Our Feature Story this week was prompted by the fact that we get many
e-mails from listeners - particularly those new to the 'dog world' - that their
dog growls at them or their kids particularly around feeding time or if they
have a chew or a special toy.
Sadly some of these dogs have actually been surrendered adding to the problem of
'dumped dogs' all because of owner ignorance. These dogs were just exhibiting
what is essentially 'normal behaviour' although this can (and should be)
controlled to a certain extent with proper training.
This week Dr Harry Cooper gives all dog owners some good advice.

Mon 8th December 2008 Growly
Dogs = Back Off Buddy! With Australia's most popular veterinarian – Dr Harry Cooper
Part
of a dog's natural behaviour is to growl. Many dog owners think their dog is
aggressive because they growl.
Sometimes this is the case and Dr Harry talks about that in this featured story,
but generally dog to dog growling, especially at feeding time is a natural
behaviour that most dogs understand the meaning of.
Dogs
growling at humans is an absolute no no... but knowing that a growling dog is
saying 'back off or I'll bite' is certainly good to know!
Young children especially can be a threat to dogs - some dogs see screaming 3
year old kids as 'aliens'... pulling their tails, shouting and running.
A young child does not understand what a growl means.
Once again Dr Harry has some great advice for all dog loving families.
